What is Rainbow?

The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls (Rainbow), is a non-profit youth organization for girls ages 11-20. When Reverend W. Mark Sexson founded the organization in 1922, he wanted an organization for young girls to help build their self-confidence and leadership skills, all while helping serve their communities. Throughout the world, Rainbow teaches young women to be confident in themselves and all that they do. We build friendships around the globe and create life-long relationships as the girls communicate to each jurisdiction and work together to learn how to be the best women they can be.

With an emphasis on service, New Hampshire Rainbow has worked with a variety of charitable organizations including, but not limited to, Make-A-Wish Foundation, World Wildlife Foundation, Girls At Work, Inc., David’s House, and Ecosmith. We teach girls that by living a life of service, they can become better women and leaders in the world. When they know how to help others, they can do anything they set their minds to.

Our organization has 275,000 members in 45 states and in 9 foreign countries: Queensland and New South Wales, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Aruba, Japan, the Philippines, Canada and Germany. More than one million girls have been initiated into our order since 1922 and many of those members remain active as adult leaders after obtaining their majority at the age of 20.

As an organization, we are building future leaders. We build strong girls who turn into powerful women. Through Rainbow, girls are taught that they can achieve anything if they have the right determination and support. The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls is an organization for and run by the girls. Biweekly meetings are planned and run by the girls with adult aid and supervision. They choose what projects they want to work on, what charities they want to fundraise for, and how they want to spend their time and money. Girls learn how to conduct a regular business meeting and poise themselves appropriately for different situations. Rainbow truly does get girls ready for life.
